IMPD detectives still don't know what caused 30-year-old Michael Anderson reportedly shoot four people at the Villa Paree Apartments. One of the victims died right before Anderson turned the gun on himself, delivering a fatal shot to his own head.
“He said that would explain everything 'cause I just asked was everybody okay. He didn't really go into any details,” Rutherford said.
According to the police department, around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Anderson, who lived in the neighborhood, went to the laundry facility, shooting a maintenance worker. The maintenance worker was Jacob Wiseman. Wiseman was able to go across the street to a parking lot.
"My wife heard the shots and she said 'Oh my God' and I said, 'No, it couldn't be,'” Jeremiah Huskins said. Huskins lives in the neighborhood.
Investigators believe Anderson then went inside the leasing office where he shot and killed 45-year-old Alicia Koehl who had not worked at that site very long. After that, Anderson went into an apartment, apparently kicking the door in, and shot 29-year-old Stephanie Bellamy. Then, detectives said, Anderson went back to the leasing office where he shot the office manager, 61-year-old Charlene Sanders.
"I got up and looked out the back door and the police had the guns drawn chasing some guy all the way around the front up here and then that's when I came up here to the front window and saw him on the ground,” Huskins said.
Detectives said Anderson shot and killed himself.
"I thought that was actually a victim like I didn't know he had shot himself,” Huskins said.
According to a neighbor, Anderson had lived at the Villa Paree Apartments for two years, but is from Detroit, Mi. Fox59 learned Anderson had been upset about maintenance issues.
"It's so quiet around there. I love it here and to hear that, it's awful,” Rutherford said.
The leasing office at the Villa Paree Apartments will remain closed through Sunday, June 3.
Wiseman was released from the hospital Thursday. He suffered one gunshot wound to his elbow on his right arm.
Two other victims remained hospitalized Thursday.
