Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 200 block of West 37th Street around 7:20 p.m. Sunday evening on a report of a disturbance with shots fired.
When they arrived, officers found Prince Bibbs, 23, lying on the sidewalk in the 3700 block of Capitol with apparent gunshot wounds.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
As officers were checking on Hawkins on the porch, they noticed two small children inside the home.
Officers quickly entered the home, removed the children, and took them to a safe location.
At that time, not knowing what had occurred or if other people were in the home, officers backed out, established a perimeter and called for the SWAT team.
Members of the SWAT team attempted to make contact with anyone inside the home multiple times but were unsuccessful.
SWAT team members then entered, searched and secured the home before handing it over to investigators.
Homicide detectives and crime lab technicians are expected to be on scene investigating the homicides through the night Sunday.
Police do not know at this time what led up to the shootings, if the men are related or if other suspects are involved.
Anyone with information into the double homicide is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 317-262-TIPS or IMPD Homicide at 317-327-3475.
