Police searching for suspect following rape in Irvington neighborhood

Indianapolis

There have been several rapes in an east side neighborhood since Sept. 1. Police say none of them appear to be connected. The latest was reported Saturday.

Detectives canvased the historic Irvington neighborhood Tuesday morning passing out flyers with a drawing of a man they think is the suspect in that rape that happened on Audubon Road. A 15-year-old girl was attacked in that case.

Lisa Smith lives in the neighborhood.

"It's creepy but it happens but you don't usually hear about it. I was impressed with the police and canvassing the neighborhood. I thought that was good work."

Police said the man is in his early 20s, 5'7" to 5'9" and stocky build.

"We are very hopeful that the community will come forward with information that will help us solve this unfortunate case," said Officer Kendale Adams.

Smith said neighbors are now on the look out.

"I know a lot of people in this neighborhood so we're all talking about it. We're all pretty eyes up and vigilant."

If you have any information that can help police find the man in the drawing, call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
