A North Vernon woman was airlifted to the hospital following a serious accident in Jennings County Tuesday.
Officials said 30-year-old Matthew Jayne was driving northbound on State Road 7 near the SR 7 and SR 3 split when 57-year-old Chris Callahan tried to pass him on the shoulder. Callahan ran out of road, hit Jayne's truck, skidded sideways and struck an embankment. Callahn's truck finally came to rest on its roof in the southbound lane of SR 7.
Callahan had to be extricated from her vehicle and was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. A passenger in Jayne's car suffered minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
