Mayor Greg Ballard and Public Safety Director Frank Straub announced Tuesday that Rick Hite will serve as acting police chief until a replacement can be found.
His appointment followed Paul Ciesielski’s resignation due to continued issues with the investigation into IMPD officer David Bisard.
Hite came to Indianapolis from Baltimore back in Sept. 2010. Since then, he's been the deputy director of the Department of Homeland safety.
He served 30 years on the Baltimore police force but agreed to come to Indianapolis to help clean up IMPD. While in Baltimore, he was also commander of a division that specialized in dealing with troubled youth.
