The Salvation Army is a few dollars closer to its Tree of Lights Campaign goal thanks to a few special coins.
Kokomo Salvation Army Captain Dale Brandenburg said people dropped several valuable coins into their red kettles. Last week, they found a 1981 gold Krugerrand worth $1,612.
Brandenburg said they also received seven silver coins worth $29 a piece.
The Salvation Army wants to raise $3.2 million by the end of January. They are currently halfway to their goal. The Salvation Army's bell ringers are at more than 140 locations around Central Indiana.
