Circle Centre Mall has a 210,000 square foot vacancy after Nordstrom left the building. Now, plans are in place to divide that space so more than just one business can move in.
"That sounds like the plan, is to break up the first floor to put in four restaurants. The restaurants will be national names like Cheesecake Factory or BJ's Restaurant and Brew House," said Cory Schouten with the Indianapolis Business Journal.
Other interested restaurants include ESPN Sports Zone and Ocean Prime.
Retail Realtor Mike Perlstein said it's smart financially for Simon Property Group to split up the large space.
"The most valuable space is on the first floor and there are restaurants looking for prime real estate downtown," Perlstein said.
He said the top two floors will likely go to a department store.
"I hope it's a Target, because there's really nowhere downtown where you can get those little things you need. That, or a Macy's because that's probably my favorite store," said downtown shopper Lindy Vaught.
Simon Property Group would not comment on the plan other than to say it is actively looking to fill the space.
Perlstein said there would be some building challenges to bringing in several restaurants on the first floor, like adding entrances, delivery zones and outdoor seating. He said it will probably be about a year before any restaurant opens in the spot.
