A Henry County grandmother is facing battery charges after two young boys claimed she burned their tongues with a heater, causing blisters.
According to court documents, the boys, ages 6 and 3, were visiting their grandmother, 56-year-old Shirley Hagerman, on January 15. When the boys were returned to their foster parents, they reported their grandmother had burned their tongues.
The young boys were transported to Marion General Hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.
A detective with the Henry County Sheriff’s Department interviewed the 6-year-old, who said his grandmother made them wait in line and stand in front of her with their tongues out. According to the documents, the boy said Hagerman used a screen from the front of a heater to burn them.
Hagerman was arrested on February 17 and preliminary charged with two felony counts of battery. She bonded out of jail the following day.
Hagerman is due in court for an initial hearing on February 28.
