Representative Charles Brown (D-Gary) is a strong advocate of smoking bans. This year, he's pushing for a lofty goal. He's writing a bill that will make all public facilities smoke-free.
That means smoking would be banned in any building with a roof that people visit. The lawmaker is optimistic about his chances.
"I am not one to think in the negative. My issue this year is that I will garner enough votes in both the house and the senate that we will have Indiana as a smoke-free state," said Brown.
Brown's efforts have the support of the Indiana Campaign for Smokefree Air. It's a statewide coalition with more than 400 partners all committed to keeping Indiana's air free of secondhand smoke.
