A man got away with prescription drugs after an armed robbery at a CVS store in Fishers. Police said it's a type of crime they're seeing more of these days.
"I think over the past few months we've seen an increase in these robberies in the Indianapolis area," said Officer Tom Wegner of the Fishers Police Department. "This is the first one in Fishers, but these are becoming common."
The call came in at around 4:40 a.m., according to Hamilton County Dispatch. The caller reported an armed robber inside the store located at 13050 Publishers Drive near 131st Street and State Road 37.
"We've just been robbed," the caller told 911 dispatchers in a recording obtained by Fox59 News. "He had a mask. He had a mask."
Fishers police set up a perimeter and searched the area with a K-9 unit, but came up empty. Two CVS employees told police that the man entered the store around 4:30 a.m., walking up to a female employee.
"He displayed a gun to a female employee and ordered the pharmacist to open the safe," Wegner said.
The man took prescription drugs from the safe and then left the store. The employees were not hurt.
The CVS has cameras, and now police are combing through surveillance footage for anything that helps crack the case.
Anyone with information regarding this armed robbery is encouraged to contact Detective Kevin Kobli at 317-595-3300.
