"I would love for him to show me something that he is okay and that he recognizes me," said Craig Andrews, Jason's father. "I do not think I have seen that yet."
"You can not really get a straight answer, where you are going because they will not know, until he wakes up. We do not know when that is going to be," said Craig Andrews.
Jason Andrews was hit by a train, along the tracks last week. Police say the 15-year-old was listening to his iPod as he walked along the rails. The music he was listening to blocked out the sound of the locomotive.
"He had an angel with him that day or something," said Sheila Andrews, Jason's step-mother. "Who gets hit by a train and 11 days later you are not even on a ventilator? Jason has made a lot of progress."
Jason Andrews has multiple skull fractures and cuts to his face. His spleen is lacerated. He has bruises from head to toe, but no broken bones.
"We are not going backwards, we are still going forward," said Craig Andrews.
TV cameras are not allowed in the critical care unit where Jason is, but the family said his walls are filled with posters from classmates. There are cards from friends and even strangers, everywhere.
"Franklin absolutely surprised me, the way everybody pulled together over somebody they did not even know," said Craig Andrews.
As the family waits for Jason to recover, they know the harsh reality ahead, he may never return to being the fun-loving kid in his family photos.
"I am trying not to think about it, because that is my son and I know what he wanted to be when he grows up," said Craig Andrews.
The family said they are wrestling with the fact that they want Jason out of the hospital as soon as possible, but they want to make sure he is healthy first.
