A woman died after being shot Monday afternoon--and police say it happened as a result of an argument between a mother and her son over taking out the trash.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Kendale Adams, the shooting happened just after 4 p.m. Monday in the 6000 block of Nolte Street on Indy's southwest side.

Investigators told Fox59 the man argued with his mother before shooting her several times. Police later found him in Morgan County with a gunshot wound. According to the Morgan County Sheriff, it appears the Brooklyn town marshal shot the man after he threatened to hurt himself and said he was armed.

The woman died, police said. Her son's condition is unknown.
