Troopers with the Indiana State Police investigated reports of a body found near the IUPUI campus Wednesday evening.
A bicyclist found the body of an unidentified black woman on the White River Wapahani Trail in the White River State Park around 7:30 p.m.
Troopers told Fox59 the body was found on the walking path near the intersection of Limestone Street and West New York Street, south of the IUPUI Campus Apartments.
Investigators were delayed investigating the death due to two dogs that appeared to to be protective of the body, troopers said.
Indianapolis Animal Care and Control was called to the scene to take control of the dogs so police could begin their investigation.
State Police don't know if the dogs belonged to the deceased female.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.
