( ASSOCIATED PRESS / September 4, 2004 ) High winds from a Hurricane Frances feeder band knocked over a large ficus tree that fell on four vehicles and a carport at Daniel Tobar's Plantation home. Tobar, 51, said, "I've been saying this tree is a danger." The man and his neighbors had been trying to remove the tree since Hurricane Andrew in 1992, but the City of Plantation refused. Tobar said he spent more than $1,000 a year for pruning to keep the tree in check and now that it has fallen, the city tells him he will be responsible for its removal. |
