AUDIO: Listen to the anonymous call to Indiana's Department of Child Services
Editor's note: This audio was originally posted to The Tribune's website for a short time Friday afternoon. A court order forced the newspaper to remove the audio. With the case resolved today, the stories are now published again.
A judge this week ordered the release of recordings to Indiana's Department of Child Services' call center relating to the beating death of 10-year-old Tramelle Sturgis in November, based on a Tribune request for the records. We have edited out details that would violate state confidentiality laws, including the names of the children, details that might identify the caller or the caller's sources of information, and any details that suggest criminal activity on the part of others who have not been charged with a crime in the case. You will hear pauses where information in the recording has been deleted. The caller's voice has also been digitally altered.

Add / View comments | Discussion FAQIS THIS WOMAN FOR REAL. I DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT I JUST HEARD. YOU WOULD THINK THIS GENTLEMAN CALLER WAS DOING SOMETHING WRONG. LIKE SHE THINKS NOT HAVING ANY GAS ON OR LIVING IN MOLD IS OK FOR CHILDREN TO BEING LIVING IN THIS SITUATION. I THINK SHE NEEDS TO BE HELD PARTIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS LITTLE BOYS DEATH. SHE SHOULD HAVE CALLED THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY AND SENT THEM TO THIS HOUSE. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH OUR SYSTEM IF WE HAVE TO ASK THESE KINDS OF QUESTIONS BEFORE WE CAN DETERMINE IF A CHILD IS IN DANGER. DO WE REALLY NEED TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF STICKS THEY ARE BEATING THEM WITH IS IT LEGAL TO BEAT THEM WITH ANYTHING???? I DON'T SEE ANY COMMENTS ON HERE FROM DCS DEFENDING THIS WOMAN THAT TOOK THIS CALL FROM HIM. THINGS THAT MAKE YA GO HMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!
I AM OUTRAGED! THAT POOR SWEET MAN WORKED UP THE COURAGE TO CALL AND IT GOT HIM AND THOSE CHILDREN NOWHERE! HE IS A HERO EVEN THOUGH THE OUTCOME WASN'T SO GOOD. OUR SYSTEM IS SCREWED UP BY ALL MEANS BUT ALSO IS THE "IRRESPONSIBILITY OF ADULTS". 10 KIDS...REALLY? IN ONE HOUSE? IT'S BEYOND COMPREHENSION. GOD BLESS THAT SWEET MAN FOR HIS EFFORTS TO SAVE THOSE CHILDREN...THERE IS NOTHING GOOD ABOUT THIS STORY FROM BEGINNING TO END...BUT BLESS THAT MAN FOR TRYING...
WHO WAS THAT IDIOT WOMAN TAKING THAT CALL. IS SHE FOR REAL? SHE SHOULD BE HELD PARTIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THOSE CHILDREN. I SURE HOPE THAT SHE DOES NOT STILL HAVE HER JOB. IT'S PEOPLE LIKE THAT WITH NO SENSE OF URGENCY THAT DOES NOT BELONG IN THAT LINE OF WORK. HIS LIFE MAY HAVE BEEN SAVED HAD SHE TOOK IT SERIOUSLY. OMG!
