(WSBT) Most everyone knows that Skylar Diggins can score a basketball.

But did you know that the South Bend Washington junior can spike a volleyball just as well?

Resisting the pressures to solely focus on the sport she'll play in college, Diggins has continued to play for the Panther volleyball team starring as the team’s best middle hitter.

"Once you have a passion about something and you just like it, you want to stick with it,” Diggins told WSBT Sports. “The fun of volleyball just takes the pressure of basketball off for a minute."

“We are at an advantage to have her on our team, and she is as big a part of our volleyball team as she is for our basketball [team],” said Susan Rathwick, her volleyball coach. “So I couldn’t see a season without her.”

Basketball coach Marilyn Coddens is more than fine with Sky's decision, too.

"It is very refreshing,” said Coddens. “She's so mature and wise, and this is good for her.”

When it comes down to it, Skylar just wants to be Skylar. She wants to do what she wants to do, and that's being a fine representative of the "pride of the west side.”

“This is the time in your life when you just want to try everything,” Diggins said. “You don’t want to look back and say, ‘Man I should have played that,’ or regret that I didn’t play it, so I was just like, ‘I’m going to go ahead and try everything that I want to try.’”

"It’s more than Skylar,” said Coddens. “She plays for her school and that’s always been her first priority.”

And of course the pumpkins will be rolled out (the basketballs) — Skylar will set out to help her team defend their 4-A state title.

“I just want everyone to look out for us again,” Diggins said. “Don’t underestimate us.”

An inch taller now, can Diggins dunk the ball now?

“I might go up for one,” Diggins laughed. “Like I said last year you might just be surprised!”

This girl is still around? What is she, like a 6th year senior? Graduate already! Good luck in the WNBA, what with all 20 of their fans supporting you!

I agree with John Wooden, Skylar is the most ball hogging-crybaby of a player I have ever seen..she looks in the media..but watch her play BB she is a cherry picker and crys to the refs when things don't go her way. Her step dad Moe is her agent pratically. If she is so good why can't she make her mind on where to go to college. My opion is she is overrated.

Diggins is the most overrated girl BB player I have ever seen. In Colorado this summer she was dreadful. Should not have even made the 18 and under team. She'll be exposed soon enough.
