SOUTH BEND — The Joyce Center ice rink was quiet on Monday. The usual sights and sounds of Irish hockey were suspiciously absent.

However, if you think that means the Notre Dame Hockey team wasn't on the ice ... think again.

Head coach Jeff Jackson took his team outside, to Merrifield Park Ice Rink in Mishawaka. Not for conditioning. Not to work on the power play. But just to have a little fun!

“I wanted them to get a smile on their faces," Jackson explained. “It was way too serious this morning in the training we had. I wanted to let them have some fun ... this was a better option for us than just practicing today."

The move seemed to have the desired effect. Click Watch the Video for the story.
