PARK RIDGE, Ill. (AP) — Indiana forward D.J. White was named the Big Ten's Player of the Year on Monday in separate balloting by the media and coaches.

White, the conference's second-leading scorer (17.1 points) and top rebounder (10.3 per game), was a unanimous pick by the coaches and became the first Indiana player to take the honor since Jared Jeffries in 2002.

While White was named the top player, the coaches and media selected teammate Eric Gordon as the conference's Freshman of the Year after watching him average a league-high 21.5 points.

The awards cap a tumultuous regular season for a team that found success on the court but saw coach Kelvin Sampson lose his job amid NCAA allegations of major rule infractions. Although they closed with a loss at Penn State, the 22nd-ranked Hoosiers are 25-6 heading into the Big Ten tournament.

Matt Painter of No. 17 Purdue was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Boilermakers to a second-place finish in the conference.

Michigan State's Drew Neitzel, Purdue's Robbie Hummel and Wisconsin's Brian Butch were first-team picks by the coaches along with White and Gordon. White, Gordon, Hummel, Butch and Ohio State's Jamar Butler were chosen by the media.
