INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Nick Williams, Alabama's prep basketball player of the year, has signed with Indiana.

The 6-foot-5 guard from LeFlore High School in Mobile had originally signed with Marquette in the fall, but he was let out of his commitment and followed when coach Tom Crean left Marquette for Indiana. He chose the Hoosiers over Arkansas, Kansas State, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Alabama, the school announced.

"Nick really addresses a need for us and gives us a big, strong presence in the backcourt," Crean said in a statement. "He is a winner who is tough and physical and he boasts a work ethic that has helped him improve his game in a variety of ways each year. He has done a wonderful job at making the transition as a perimeter player after beginning his career as an inside performer."

Williams averaged 21 points per game as a senior and earned All-State honors after leading LeFlore to the Class 6A state semifinals.

The Hoosiers need Williams because earlier this month, point guard Terrell Holloway told The Cincinnati Enquirer that he would attend Xavier next season after originally signing to play for Indiana under then-coach Kelvin Sampson. Holloway was one of Indiana's top two recruits, but had the school include an out clause in his letter of intent in case there was a coaching change.
