WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — Bob Knight, who started his college coaching career at Army and led the Black Knights to four NIT appearances in six seasons, has been selected along with former quarterback Arnold Tucker for induction into the Army Sports Hall of Fame.

Knight attended Ohio State and was a member of the Buckeye team that won the NCAA championship in 1960. After graduating with a degree in history and government, Knight was an assistant coach at Cuyahoga Falls (Ohio) High School for one year before entering the U.S. Army. He was assigned to assist coach Tates Locke at West Point, and when Locke became head coach at Miami (Ohio) University in 1965, Knight was named to succeed him at age 24.

Knight, who holds the all-time record for wins in men's Division I college basketball with 902, led Army to a 102-50 record before leaving for Indiana.

Tucker, quarterback on Army's unbeaten national championship team of 1945 and captain of the men's basketball team as a senior, will also be inducted into the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame in the fall.

The fifth Army Sports Hall of Fame class, set to be inducted Sept. 19, also includes: Mike Silliman (basketball); Curt Alitz (track and cross country); George Clark (ice hockey); Ted Kanamine (swimming); John Boretti (baseball, soccer, and hockey); Jose Olivero (lacrosse, soccer and wrestling); Alexis Albano (women's soccer and track and field); and Richard Shelton (pistol).

"The committee has done a tremendous job of recognizing athletes and coaches who have made great contributions to Army athletics," Army athletics director Kevin Anderson said in a release Thursday. "This is one of our larger classes to be enshrined and covers a wide spectrum of accomplishments from a variety of sports. We are looking forward to September and honoring this very deserving class."

West Point's selection committee only considers accomplishments at the academy.
