BERRIEN SPRINGS -- Our Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete of the week has many trademarks. One of them is breaking away -- Berrien Springs track and cross country runner Kyle Banish knows what it takes to stay ahead of the pack.

"If there's somebody giving him a challenge, he's going to give it everything he's got. He's got a lot of heart and he's going to dig down and find something always. Whatever he has to do to win, he's gonna do it," Kyle’s coach Chris Hawn told WSBT Sports.

"More than anything I just want to get my goals and my times, which I'm not that far off from. I'm hoping to do that in the next few races," said Banish.

Kyle is a three-time state qualifier and undefeated through the first ten meets of the season at Berrien Springs. He also brings that motivation and determination to the classroom.

Kyle has a 3.0 GPA and hopes to run for Grand Valley State next year.

"He works really hard on the track and on the course, and he works really hard inside the classroom as well. Plus he holds down a job too," Hawn said.

With all those things on his plate, there isn't time for much else, like say, a haircut.

“It's like a trademark! I can't cut my hair! It's something that people know me by. They don't even have to see my face, they just see my hair and they know me!"

Congratulations to Kyle Banish, the Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete of the Week!

Kyle doesn't need a haircut, his hair is his trademark that everybody knows him by. It is amazing when he passes like 5 people in the last 100 meters of the 2 mile and his hair just whips back. He has grown his hair out for as long as I have been running with him and I think that it would just be too wierd to see him run without it. Congrats Kyle hope to sometime see you run in college.
