SOUTH BEND (AP) — Notre Dame's president, the Rev. John Jenkins, will conduct the search for a new athletic director following the departure of Kevin White.

The school said Wednesday that the search for a replacement has begun. The school said the board of trustees adopted a policy in May 2007 that reads: "Notre Dame adheres to the principle of presidential control over intercollegiate athletics."

The school said Jenkins will seek advice before making his decision. No timetable has been set for replacing White, who announced Saturday he had accepted the job as Duke's athletic director.

Longtime Notre Dame administrator Missy Conboy is serving as the school's interim athletic director.
