CHICAGO -- Middle linebacker for the Chicago Bears is one of the most revered positions in football. And the latest guy responsible for that, will be staying in the Windy City for five more years.

The Bears signed Brian Urlacher to a contract extension through the 2012 season, that will pay him $43.5 million dollars over the next five seasons.

Urlacher had already been signed for four years, but expressed unhappiness with his contract in the off-season, feeling he had outperformed his current deal.

The Bears have responded with $18 million dollars more, and a one year extension, to keep their franchise player happy. The new contract will keep Urlacher in Chicago until his 35th birthday, likely allowing him to finish his career with the Bears.

Urlacher has made the Pro-Bowl six times in his 8 year career.

The Bears begin training camp this week in Bourbonnais, IL.
