INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indiana men's basketball coach Tom Crean has agreed to a 10-year contract through the 2017-18 season, the Indianapolis Star reported Monday.

The Star cited "people familiar with the situation" for the story.

When Crean was hired in April to replace interim coach Dan Dakich, he agreed to an eight-year deal worth $18.24 million, an annual average of $2.3 million. Indiana University trustee Steve Ferguson said Crean initially signed a memorandum of understanding that outlined those terms, but never signed an official contract.

"As soon as the long-form contract is done and finalized, it will be released," Crean said in a statement Monday. "To date, I'm comfortable with the progress and look forward to its completion."

Before coming to Indiana, Crean spent nine seasons at Marquette, leading the Golden Eagles to the 2003 Final Four.

He replaced Dakich, who went 3-4 in his brief tenure at the helm of the Hoosiers. Dakich took over for Kelvin Sampson, who resigned Feb. 22 amid a phone call scandal that led to NCAA allegations of five major rules violations. Sampson was given a $750,000 buyout to leave.
