SOUTH BEND (AP) — Reserve wide receiver Richard Jackson has told Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis he plans to transfer to a school closer to his home in Florida.

Jackson, who was rated as the No. 87 player by USA Today coming out of East Ridge High School in Clermont, Fla., made 73 appearances on special teams as a freshman in 2006. He missed last season with a wrist injury.

Jackson was listed as third on the preseason depth chart at the X-receiver spot. Weis said he met with Jackson Thursday night and Friday morning to make sure he had thoroughly thought through his decision.

"We thank him for his time and wish him well in the future," Weis said.
