Michigan limps past Miami of Ohio 16-6 in Week 2

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan's first win for new coach Rich Rodriguez was far from easy.

Brandon Minor's 15-yard touchdown run with 8:12 to go finally put away Miami of Ohio, helping the Wolverines to a lackluster 16-6 win Saturday.

A week after losing at home to Utah in Rodriguez's greatly anticipated debut — Michigan (1-1) started strong with 10 points on its first two possessions. Then the Wolverines struggled until the drive that ended with Minor's clinching score.

The RedHawks (0-2) trailed by four points entering the final quarter, giving themselves a shot to end the Mid-American Conference's 0-23 skid against college football's winningest program.

Rodriguez will not be able to enjoy his first win at Michigan long — a visit to Notre Dame is up next.

Rodriguez also might not be closer to finding a No. 1 quarterback. Steven Threet started for the first time, but was just 6-of-13 for 63 yards in a rotation with Nick Sheridan, who completed 4 of 5 passes for 40 yards.

Michigan ran the ball better than it did in last week's loss. Sam McGuffie gained 74 of the team's 178 yards and the freshman had a 27-yard reception to set up Minor's TD.

Miami's Daniel Raudabaugh was 20-of-33 for 191 yards with a fumble before being knocked out in the fourth quarter, getting sandwiched by the Wolverines on a running play.

Nathan Parseghian — a great-grandnephew of famed Notre Dame coach Ara Parseghian — kicked a field goal in both the second and third quarters to pull the RedHawks to 10-6.

The game was not a sellout and drew 106,724 fans, the smallest crowd at Michigan Stadium since it was expanded in 1998.
