NOTRE DAME -- It was wet, it was wild, but in the end it was a win. Notre Dame made their "big splash" on six Michigan turnovers. And aside from their wiped-out head coach, all is well in the land of Notre Dame football -- at least for a night.

"We wanted to make a statement that we're not some garbage team that can be crapped on every week," exclaimed Charlie Weis.

The Wolverines provided the trash in this edition of the interstate rivalry -- six miscues which the Irish turned into 21 points.

"It was a nightmare," said Michigan Coach Rich Rodriguez.

"We knew it would be a game of turnovers and field position, and we set the bar high," said Brian Smith.

Spotted a 21-0 lead, the Irish were in a strange spot and it was clear they were going for Big Blue's jugular.

"If we got on top, it was gonna be bombs away. Just nickel-ing and dime-ing them with that defensive front -- that would be tough sledding," added Weis.

"It was great that they had confidence in me right from the start of the game," said Jimmy Clausen.

This one might also be remembered for the amount of
rain -- thoughts of Noah's Ark came to mind -- but it also could be marked as the 'ship sailing' as far as thoughts of 2007.

"We earned some respect today," beamed Golden Tate.

"We're making more plays, we're playing with more heart. We're trying to show that we're not the same ND as last year," said David Bruton.

"I'm happy for the team, the students, and I'm happy for the fans. It was a big win," finished Weis.
