SOUTH BEND — Washington High School senior basketball player Skylar Diggins learned late Tuesday night that she has been selected as the Naismith Award National Player of the Year.

Diggins, who will play at Notre Dame next season, averaged a state-best 29 points per game this past season and led Washington to a state runner-up spot in the Class 4-A tournament.
