Indiana Girls Finals move to Fort Wayne

By WSBT Sports

FORT WAYNE (AP) — Next year's girls state basketball finals will be hosted by Fort Wayne under a deal announced by the Indiana State High School Athletic Association.

Commissioner Blake Ress says the IHSAA has an agreement in principle to hold next year's girls finals at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on March 6, 2010.

The IHSAA Executive Committee approved the one-year change recently.

Ress says he thinks the reception the teams will get in Fort Wayne will outweigh the additional travel the change will impose on some schools.

Ball State University in Muncie and Indiana University in Bloomington also bid on the finals.

Indianapolis has hosted the girls finals in recent years, but neither Conseco Fieldhouse nor Lucas Oil Stadium was available for next year's date.
