SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame's senior class won't leave campus with the same accolades bestowed when the players arrived.

Coach Charlie Weis predicted they would lay the foundation for the Fighting Irish to remain among the college elite for years to come. Receiver Robby Parris says the players arrived in South Bend expecting to win national championships.

Instead, the seniors could leave with the worst record for a Notre Dame class in two decades. Heading into Saturday's home game against Connecticut, their record is 26-22, a .542 winning percentage. Bob Davie's final recruiting class of 2001 had the same record.

That's the worst mark since Gerry Faust's recruiting class of 1983, which went 24-22.

Weis still believes his seniors have been essential to building the program.
