College Plus: Gopher wrestling fans love their freshman from Webster

Webster graduate Logan Storley picked up a pair of big wins this weekend.

The University of Minnesota freshman helped the third ranked Gophers earn a 23-15 comeback win over Michigan on Friday in Minneapolis. Minnesota was down 15-7 heading into the 174-pound match between the No. 7 Storley and Michigan's No. 5 Justin Zerrip, a fifth-year senior.

Storley was down 5-3 with four seconds left in regulation as both wrestlers went out of the circle. After a re-start, Storley caught Zeerip for a two-point takedown tying the match at five. Storley scored a takedown 20 seconds into the extra time to pick up the 7-5 victory and pull the Gophers within five of the Wolverines. The Gophers then won the next three matches to win the dual 23-15.

Minnesota then lost to No. 5 Iowa 19-17 on Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa. Storley rallied to win his match 5-3 over redshirt sophomore Ethen Lofthouse, who is ranked ninth in the nation.

Storley is one of three Minnesota wrestlers undefeated in Big Ten duals with a 6-0 record this season. With the loss, Minnesota (9-3, 6-1) still is on top of the Big Ten standings. Penn State and Nebraska (each 5-1) are tied for second. The Gophers host Nebraska, coached by Vermillion native Mark Manning, Sunday in another Big Ten dual.

Tetzlaff honored

Northern State junior Dustin Tetzlaff is the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men's basketball player of the week for the second time this season.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound Tetzlaff averaged 15.5 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Wolves to a pair of wins over Minnesota-Duluth and Bemidji State last weekend. The junior notched his fourth double-double of the season in Friday night's win with 14 points and 11 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end of the court.

The Watertown graduate also had 17 points and nine boards with an assist, a block and a steal in Saturday's win over Bemidji State. Tetzlaff went a combined 11-of-16 from the floor on the weekend.

PC gets Warner standout

Warner standout Karly Fuhrman will play for the Presentation College volleyball team this fall.

The 5-foot-10 Fuhrman finished her career at Warner with 777 kills, 139 blocks, and 103 assists and 109 digs. During her career at Warner, her team won the state championship in 2009 and were state runners-up in 2010.

Last season, the Monarchs finished the season with a 28-2 record, 6-0 in the Lake Region Conference and lost to eventual state champs Northwestern in the district final.

NSU football recruit

Chad Stoterau of Garretson has verbally committed to play football at Northern State.

Stoterau is a 6-foot-3, 245-pound offensive/defensive lineman. He was a Class 11B first team all-state selection this past season. Garretson went 5-4 this past fall and lost to eventual state champsTri-Valleyin the first round of the playoffs.

The college national signing day is Wednesday.

Saints get Minnesotans

Brent Plumski and Josh Boyda will play for the Presentation College football team this season.

Plumski is a 5-foot-11, 225-pound native of Sauk Rapids, Minn. He was an all-conference offensive lineman for Foley High School which finished 7-3 last fall. He also was St. Cloud Times All-Area Honorable Mention and the Foley offensive line MVP.
