WINONA, Minn. - Winona State handed Northern State its seventh straight loss of the season on Tuesday.
The Wolves were dominated 81-57 by the 20th ranked Warriors in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest.
The Warriors had only two players score in double figures as Xavier Humphrey scored 11 points and Anthony Tucker added 10 points. However, the Warriors had 11 players see at least 10 or more minutes of playing time and 14 players played in the game. All 14 players scored.
They are way too good of a team (for us) to not come in here fully prepared for war, Northern State coach Paul Sather said. Tonight we did not want that. We wanted a friendly game. Winona didn't.
Northern led 7-6 early in the game and 14-13 with 12 minutes, 38 seconds to go in the first half. Then Winona State pieced together a 22-9 run to close the first half and led 35-23 at halftime. The Warriors used a 23-3 run to start the second half en route to the dominating win. It was Northern State's most lopsided loss of the season.
Their pressure really dictated what we were trying to do, Sather said. As soon as we get a little pressure we were not seeing. They are getting deflections, steals and transition baskets.
Dustin Tetzlaff led the Wolves with 15 points and seven rebounds. Collin Pryor added 13 points for NSU, which started the season 5-0 and is now 5-7. Winona State made 10 of it 25 three-point attempts.
We had nothing going offensively, Sather said, and defensively we got out of position and just one thing led to another.
Northern State (5-7, 1-7) will play at Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday in another NSIC contest.
We were not ready to play the way we needed to play, Sather said. It is a short week coming up and an important week for us to learn from.
