Twins Lane and Shekota Myer of Ipswich highlight the Northern State track and field recruiting class announced today.
Northern State cross country and track and field coach Kevin Bjerke announced the addition of 20 student-athletes who will join the Wolves programs in the fall of 2013.
We are excited to announce a very talented group who have made early commitments to our program, said Bjerke. They include talent in almost every event area, which is an important aspect for our program at Northern. These recruits, along with several other that we continue to work on, will help fulfill our goal of fielding a well-balanced team that includes great talent across all of the events.
The following is a list of the South Dakota recruits.
Lane Myer, throws, Ipswich: Placed fifth in the shot put at state as a sophomore. A two-time All-Lake Region Conference selection in both football and basketball. Has already signed to play on the offensive line for NSU football team. Twin brother of Shekota Myer.
Shekota Myer, throws, Ipswich: A state placer in the shot put and/or discus in high school. Second in shot put as sophomore and junior at state and fifth in discus as a freshman and junior. Holds personal best of 136 feet in discus and 42 feet in shot put. National qualifier for the Junior Olympics track meet in both events. Attended Northwestern her junior year. Also played basketball and volleyball.
Courtney Brandt, middle distance, Pierre: Pierre finished fourth at the 2011 cross country meet and second in the Eastern South Dakota Conference meet her junior season. Team captain. Holds personal best of 2:31 in the 800-meters and 1:04 in the 400-meters. Played basketball and softball.
Sophie Doeden, throws, Beresford: Finished eighth in shot put and discus in the Big Sioux Conference as a junior. Injured late in her junior year. Beresford finished second in the conference in 2011 and 2012, and won a region crown in 2012. Played volleyball and basketball.
Jake Riss, sprints, Rapid City Central: Three-year qualifier at state meet. Eighth in the 100-meters in 2011 and fifth in the 100- and 200-meters as a junior. Named Best Competitor for Track and Field in 2012. Holds personal bests of 10.80 seconds in the 100-meters and :22.56 in the 200-meters. Cousin of Northern State women's basketball player Jacqee Jasinski.
Michaela Schlecht, multi-events, Great Plains Lutheran (Watertown): Great Plains won region titles in 2010 and 2011. Holds personal best of 16 feet in the long jump, :17.0 in the 100 hurdles. Will join sister Leandra, a multi-event athlete at NSU. Played volleyball and basketball.
Autumn Schulz, throws, Wall: Three-time state qualifier in the shot put, finishing eighth as a freshman. State qualifier in discus last season. Named the team field event MVP as a junior. Played volleyball, golf and basketball.
Jacob Schweitzer, distance, Bridgewater-Emery (Emery): Team MVP last three seasons. Holds school records in 1,600-meter (4:47) and 800-meter (2:05.2). Member of medley and 800-meter relay teams that won at the 2011 Howard Wood Relays. Played cross country, football and basketball.
Amy Wockenfuss, throws, Great Plains Lutheran (Anchorage, Alaska): Holds the school record in both shot put and discus. Holds personal bests of 34-1 in the shot put and 117-6 in the discus. Team won conference and regional titles in 2010 and 2011.

Reggie Blader, triple jump, Chandler, Ariz.: Finalist in region meet and participant in state tournament the last three years. Holds a mark of 43-10 in the triple jump. Signed to play football at NSU.
Dakotah Bullen, distance, St. Francis, Minn.: Two-time honorable mention all-conference in cross country. Also honorable mention all-conference twice in track.
Kendall Dunn, sprints, hurdles, Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash.: All-conference in the 1,600-meter relay. Second team all-conference in the 800-relay and 300-hurdles. Third at state in hurdles and relay. Also ran cross country two seasons.
Maddy Fluharty, sprints, jumps, Prior Lake, Minn.: Holds team records in 100-hurdles and long jump. Personal bests of :16.9 in the hurdles and 16-3 in the long jump. Sister Lindsey is sprinter at NSU.
Christian Hummelgard, sprints, hurdles, Rosemount, Minn.: Team won conference and state titles in 2011. Section champion in 2012. Holds personal bests of :15.7 in high hurdles and :40.07 in the 300-hurdles.
Salid Mohamed, sprints, Rosemount, Minn.: Team won 2011 state championship and second in 2012. Holds personal bests of :11.53 in high hurdles and :23.52 in the 200-meter dash.
Roy Reese, distance, Morris, Minn.: Three-time all-conference in cross country and won the conference meet in 2011. Advanced to state meet in 2010.
Zachery Six, sprints, middle distance, Steele, N.D.: Second in the state in the 400-meters in 2011. Sixth in the 1,600-meter relay. Holds personal bests of :22.94 in the 200 and :50.58 in the 400.
Jess Vernon, throws, Bellevue, Neb.: State qualifier in the shot put in 2012. Holds personal best of 38-11 in shot put.
Molly Wynn, hurdles, sprints, Wahpeton, N.D.: Finished 10th in state in 300-hurdles and ran on fifth place 1,600-meter relay. Holds personal bests of 1:02.3 in the 400, :47.6 in the 300-hurdles and :27.6 in the 200.
Austin Youngs, hurdles, sprints, Maple Lake, Minn.: Two-time all-conference performer. State meet participant in 2011 and 2012. Holds personal bests of :39.9 in the 300-hurdles, :22.6 in the 200, 20-2 in the long jump.
