SOUTH BEND — St. Joseph's High School senior Gabby Agostino was flipping and twisting long before she picked up the sport of diving.

"I started diving about five years ago because I wanted to do a sport in high school,” Agostino told WSBT Sports. “I used to do gymnastics so it was kind of like the same thing.”

"Around this area, all of our meets she's come in first, so far this year," said Head Coach Joel Gibbs. "And she's a great help to all of the other divers — she's willing to help out, teaching them. It's easier for another diver to help other divers out, other than hearing it from the coach all the time."

Last year, Gabby finished first in both sectionals and regionals while finishing third in the state.

This year she's ranked second in Indiana, and hopes to earn a state title before heading off to college.

“I’m planning on going to IU, and I’m diving there next year," she said. "IU was the best fit for me. I like the teammates and the coach and the pool.”

Though she will be missed by her teammates at St. Joseph, they wish her all the best!

Congratulations to Gabby Agostino, this week’s Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete!
