SOUTH BEND — After moving to South Bend from Minnesota, one of the first things Kevin Hamilton did was look for a hockey rink!
"He's been a big part of our success. Marian is currently ranked third in the state and Kevin is a major reason why,” said Marian High School head coach Jason Nightingale. “It’s been a real pleasure to coach, not only Kevin, but he also plays with his brother Derek on the team, so it's been great watching the two of them work really well together."
"We've got a great team this year. We've got five sets of brothers and a set of cousins so there is a lot of team chemistry out there and everything,” Kevin told WSBT Sports. “It's just great to play with everybody because everybody knows what you’re going to do, and it’s just a whole lot easier to play. This is probably one of the best teams I've ever played on."
Kevin is the second leading scorer in the league, and one of the top five scorers in the state. But you won't find this sniper hogging the puck!
"In 28 games, Kevin's had 29 goals and 29 assists so he's a pretty balanced player,” Nightingale said. “Guys love to play with him because he does move the puck. Actually as a coach I'd actually like him to shoot it a little bit more because he does possess such a good shot."
When Kevin's not scoring goals for Marian, he works as a volunteer for the Irish Youth Hockey League.
"They're learning how to skate,” Kevin explained. “I mean all of us out here had to do it, so you might as well give back to hockey and always try to help out somebody whenever you can."
Off the ice, Kevin maintains a 3.0 GPA and hopes to play hockey in college.
Congratulations to Kevin Hamilton, this week’s Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete!
