SOUTH BEND — After going 23-3 last year and graduating two Indiana all-stars, Saint Joseph’s High School senior DeBorah Wilson knew this season was her time to step up.

"I feel like a leader, but it's not just me. There are lots of other seniors taking the leadership role on the team,” DeBorah told WSBT Sports. “A lot of us stepped up big time this year because we know we don't have just a certain person we can depend on.”

DeBorah is the Indians’ leading scorer this season, averaging 21 points per game for Saint Joe — more than double what she averaged as a junior.

"She's definitely stepped up because we've both been behind those girls the past few years and finally it's our time to show,” said Cary Werntz, a fellow Saint Joe senior. “And she definitely steps up, and she talks to us to help us out, and she gets the job done."

DeBorah also gets the job done in the classroom. She has a 3.0 GPA and is planning on playing college basketball next year.

"When I go to the Notre Dame games, I'm always like, 'Wow, this is gonna be me next year,' so it's a burst of excitement,” DeBorah said. “It’s a good feeling.”

Congratulations to DeBorah Wilson, this week’s Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete of the Week!

Congrats to DeBorah. To the staff at WSBT Sports....Youre missing something special in little ol' Hamlet, IN. The Lady Cats are 22-0 and defending Class 1A State. Heading into the 2nd round in the sectional they are without a doubt a serious threat to repeat as state champions. Dont miss out on potential Div. 1 talent in Aubrey and Gabrielle Minix. FOX 28 is the only local sports crews Ive seen on location at Lady Cat contests. Cats will repeat. Dont jump on the bandwagon too late!!!!
