PLYMOUTH — Plymouth is a pair of wins away from defending their 3A state title! Their lynch-pin player continues to be Randy Davis.

One of the greatest basketball careers this area has seen in a long time is winding down.

"Randy's been to the semi-state level all four years of his high school career,” said Plymouth head coach John Scott. “I don't know if any players in the state can say that."

You can say this: The Pilgrims wouldn't still be alive if not for Randy Davis' repeated heroics. He scored five points in the final nine seconds of Saturday's regional title game, including a 3-pointer from NBA range! Plymouth won by one point.

"I'm never worried until the buzzer goes off,” Davis told WSBT Sports.

"He'll make some plays on the floor that we as coaches would probably consider bad plays for most people," Scott said. "He puts up a shot from a terrible angle, [I say] ‘Randy don’t shoot … nice shot Randy’ and it goes in.”

Randy's skills on the court, combined with a humble personality, have made him a role model for future Pilgrim hopefuls!

"All the kids want to be around him, want his autograph, just want to be seen and talk to him,” Scott said. “He can talk to kids at their level, he can talk to adults at their level.”

But on the court, no one can match Randy's level. One of the best pure scorers Northern Indiana has seen in years, he's brought Plymouth back to within striking distance of another championship.

"At the beginning of the year, people around here were saying, ‘We’ll be lucky to be .500,’” Davis said. “Obviously we’re not .500 and I’m glad we actually showed people what we can actually do.”

He's shown the state an awful lot, and he's not done quite yet!

Congratulations to Randy Davis, the Burger King Outstanding Student of the Week!
