NAPPANEE — NorthWood High School senior Robby Burns has always had a passion for sports.

"I've just always enjoyed playing them ever since I was a little kid and my dad was a hurdler, so that's how I got started hurdling,” he told WSBT Sports.

Robby is in his second year as captain of the track team and competes as a high jumper, hurdler, and 400 meter runner.

Robby is a leader both on the track and inside the classroom. He maintains a 3.6 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.

"Science and social studies are probably my two favorites,” Burns said. “I want to be a physical therapist when I grow up, so just being on National Honor Society is a really big honor. It’s great just to see the hard work paying off."

Robby is excited to pursue his career goals at Bethel College next year.

"It was an opportunity that I couldn't pass up to go to a college that I always liked, and getting to run track,” he said.

Right now the panthers are 3-3 in the conference and off to their best start in a long time.

"We're really excited about how it’s going to play off — the end of the season tournament and the state tournament and sectionals and conference,” he said. “We're just excited to see where we can go with the senior leadership."

Congratulations to Robby Burns, this week's Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete!
