SOUTH BEND -- At the end of a close basketball game, you want the ball with senior captain Jourdan Vann at the foul line.

"His free throw shooting is phenomenal," says head coach Chad Johnston. "His shooting is close to 90 percent and he wants the ball when the game is on the line. He's been a starter for us for three years, and that's a tribute to him and his hard work over the summer and at practice."

Vann's precision under pressure is going to come in handy for his career after high school and college.

"I am hoping to get a degree in both pre-med and business administration," Vann says. "I realize that being a professional athlete is a hard thing to do, and being a doctor really pays off. It feels good to help people too."

Jourdan is in the Medical Magnet Program at South Bend Washington High School. When he's not at school or at practice, he is a junior rotary in South Bend, and volunteers at The Boys and Girls Club.

"He is a great role model for our freshman class on up," Johnston says. "He's been on the honor roll ever since he came in Washington High School and probably when he was in middle and elementary school also. He is really going to be missed here."

Congratulations Jourdan Vann, this week's Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete!
