SOUTH BEND — Washington's Skylar Diggins has been called plenty of good things: playmaker, hard-worker, one of the biggest talents around. But you probably have never heard Diggins be called this:

"DJ Sky Dig. That's what they all call me. You can hear the girls they'll call me Sky or Dig," Diggins told WSBT Sports.

When Diggins isn't breaking records, she apparently is spinning them like a DJ!

"My Dad has DJ'd for a long time now, and he always did a Junior Formal every year. One year he had me try it and now I get plugged to do local events and parties," Diggins said.

"When I was in the military I got into music real heavy for extra money and I started DJ-ing. It became a little hobby for me. When she was coming up she wanted to go to parties and stuff in grade school and I said 'No you can't do that, but maybe if you learn how to play records you can go' -- so it was the best of both worlds because I knew she wouldn't be dancing and she would be spinning records, so I decided to invest in some DJ equipment for her," said Diggins' dad and head coach, Maurice Scott.

""I've been DJ-ing since 6th or 7th grade. I've done a lot of high school dances here, a couple of formal dances at the Century Center, and some local parties," beamed Diggins.

That musical part of Diggins makes up a side of the senior that people have rarely seen.

Ii'm animated. I'm the jokester on the team. I make a lot of jokes. On the court though I'm probably the most intense," Diggins added.

With an undefeated career in the NIC and many accolades to her name, there isn't much we can say about Skylar Diggins that hasn't already been said. But beyond one of the most decorated high school hoops careers that this state has ever seen, lies a very motivated student and a community leader.

"I shadow Dr. Furlich at South Bend Orthopedic, so I was in a hip surgery today. It was a total hip, and I'm right in there during surgery. I definitely want to follow in his footsteps along the lines of orthopedic surgery."

"When you go to Notre Dame, it's just a melting pot of people from all over the country and world, so I am most looking forward to establishing relationships in college," Diggins continued. "On the court, I'm excited -- I think we can win a National Championship."

"Skylar has left a legacy for high school basketball for the state of Indiana. She has taken the bar up a notch higher but I also think she stands on the shoulders of giants. Those before her have paved the way for her success,” said Scott.

Congratulations to Washington's Skylar Diggins, the Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete of the Week!
