BENTON HARBOR — Smooth as silk, Destiny Williams almost made it look easy during Benton Harbor's run to their Class A Michigan state title. But don't be fooled, it took oodles of work, and she needed her teammates.

"We stayed together as a team, and we didn't give up," Williams told WSBT Sports.

Still basking in the glow of that run to the crown, Williams has had a chance to reflect on why she's in the spot she's in.

"I just love it. I don't play for the fame. I love hustling, and I love being competitive," Williams added.

"She's just a great player. She's good to her teammates. I really can't say enough good things about her," said Coach Lou Harvey.

The Michigan Miss Basketball runner-up normally let her play do the talking.

"I just refuse to lose. I'm passionate, and a good athlete," said Williams.
With a 3.3 GPA, Williams will take her game to the Big Ten to play for Illinois the next four years. She dreams about one day coaching and even owning a WNBA team.

For now, her legacy at Benton Harbor is more than secure.

"We've had good players around here. But she's the best female player to come through this program," said Harvey.

Congratulations to Benton Harbor's Destiny Williams, our Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete of the Week!
