MISHAWAKA — Nick Banke's approach to track and field might give us a new sports term.

"Before I throw, the adrenaline's pumping. I'm a 'meeter.' I don't throw all that well in practice, but I really get up for the meets," Banke told WSBT Sports.

Mishawaka's 'meeter' holds the once long-standing school records in both the shot put and the discus. It's efforts like that which have Banke off to Akron on a scholarship.

"I want to get into the medical field — athletic training, physical training, nursing. School puts the money on the table. Education is important to your life, it's what you do," added Banke.

Blessed with great size and agility, Banke could have pursued a D-I college football career as a lineman at such schools as Purdue and IU. But remember, he's a 'meeter' and not a 'gamer,' so to speak.

"I was looking for something easier on my body. To be honest, I don't want to have to walk with a cane when I'm 60 years old. I can't wait to get to Akron. They have good camaraderie, and the campus is beautiful," Banke shared.

Congratulations to Nick Banke, this week's Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete!
