SOUTH BEND — Colin Slaggert is a senior at Penn High School. But come lacrosse season, his loyalty switches.

"At Penn lacrosse isn't a varsity sport, so St. Joe was good enough to let us play," Slaggert explained.

Colin is the captain for the St. Joe lacrosse team — a novelty that's seldom lost on his classmates at Penn.

"I get funny looks at Penn from students and teachers," Slaggert admits. "They're confused why you're wearing a St. Joe shirt with your name on it."

That's not the only reason he's recognized around Penn. With a GPA of 4.2 on a 4.0 scale, Colin Slaggert will graduate in a few weeks as valedictorian of his class!

"It's hard coming home from practice and hitting the books but it's something you've got to do," he said. "I live in a house where you do well in school. That's the only option."

And that option has left Slaggert with a world of options in his future. He'll attend Notre Dame in the fall and hasn't ruled out trying to walk on to the lacrosse team.

"He's got the dedication college coaches look at," says coach Chris Williams. "He's a lacrosse junkie. He loves being around the sport. He could bring a lot of intangibles to the field in college. If Colin wants it bad enough, he'll get it."
