SOUTH BEND — Adams hurdler Logan Griffith uses his specialty event as more than just a way to cross a finish line. Think hurdles, literally and figuratively.

"You come to a hurdle, you go over it. You might hit it, but you push on to the next one. You'll always face hurdles, but you have to learn how to get over them and move on," Griffith told WSBT Sports.

And move on Griffith has. The senior owns the best times in the state in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles.

"He's arguably the best hurdler we've ever had at Adams. We've had plenty of good ones, but Logan has proven himself over time," said coach Bruce Urban, who will retire as coach at the end of the year after 12 seasons.

A potential 3-time state meet runner, Griffith has gotten a needed boost from his family. In particular, his dad and assistant coach Randy, a former hurdler himself.

"He's always been there, coaching me almost 24/7. It's been a big help having him with me," said Griffith.

"He's had the parental support, that push in the back if you will. He's just a top-notch hurdler," added Urban.

The over-the-top efforts follow Logan into the classroom, too. Griffith will attend Bloomington next fall on a track scholarship and begin studying kiniseology and physical therapy.

But eventually, it will all come back to the lessons Griffith began learning at Adams. Life gives you obstacles, you just have to jump over them.

"It's fun for me because a bunch of people can sprint and go all out, but it gets interesting if you put 10 hurdles in the way," said Griffith.

Congratulations to Logan Griffith, this week's Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete.
