SOUTH BEND — Nolan Dieter didn't take long to fit in at South Bend Washington.

After transferring from South Bend Adams High School during the summer, Dieter led the Panthers to an impressive victory in the first football game of the season.

Dieter, a senior quarterback, threw for 181 yards and rushed for 89 more. He also rushed for three touchdowns in Washington's 44-12 win over city rival South Bend Clay.

"He's a natural leader," says Washington coach Antwon Jones. "You can see it on the field when he's out there. He gets kids going. He's real supportive. He's a great football player."

"We have so many weapons on offense," Dieter says, "that it allows everyone to the ball. There's so many weapons, every week someone has a breakout game."

In week one, it was Dieter. The senior is also paying close attention to his future. An honor student, his dream is to attend West Point Academy and study law.

"It's a really great college and a really great experience, and it will prepare you for the future," Dieter says.

Congratulations to South Bend Washington senior Nolan Dieter, this week's WSBT/Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete.
