As only a sophomore, Meredith Farkas helped lead the Marian volleyball team to a 33-7 record last season, including the last 2 of 3 consecutive State Final appearances.

Now a junior, she says it’s nice to be a leader to her teammates, but it’s even better to be their friend.

“You don’t have to feel like you can’t push someone to be better, but in a not mean way,” she says.

This year the Knights are ranked sixth among 3A schools in the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association Poll. And Meredith’s own coach says she has that something special that sets her apart from the rest.

“Dedication to the sport,” says Marian head coach Dan Anderson. “She loves the game and I think that’s what it takes. You can’t just go and try to be part of a team and not love the sport.”

Even with a year of high school left to go, Meredith is already looking toward the future.

“As of right now I’m planning on going to college for volleyball, if I can. I’m trying to get a scholarship,” says Meredith.

“I expect big things from her this year and next year,” added Coach Anderson.

Congratulations to Meredith Farkas, WSBT and Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete of the Week.
