When Allie Soisson injured herself playing soccer, her mom wanted to be sure she stayed active. She suggested she take up golf. So Allie decided to join the South Bend Adams High School golf team. The only problem was there were only two other players on the team.

"Since you have to have four girls to post a score, only having three was a little disappointing," says Allie. "Just because we weren't able to post a score all year."

The other two players were seniors and graduated last year. So as the only remaining player, Allie took it upon herself to recruit a new team.

"Some people I think were not exactly excited to jump at the chance to play high school girls golf," joked Allie. "But I think if you talk enough to people about the experience outside actually playing golf and the camaraderie we have with the team and the fun things we do together, then I think it was easier to sell."

While Allie may not be going to college on a golf scholarship, her coach says the experience she gained while on the Adams team will be worth a lot more.

"Is she a great golfer? Doesn't matter," says Adams golf coach Pat King. "The things that she has learned going through these last eight weeks are for a lifetime."

And when Allie does graduate and head for college to study pre-law, she'll leave knowing she helped the Adams girl’s golf team get back in full swing.

"In two or three years down the road we can go back and say Allie Soisson had a lot to do with this," added Coach King.

Congratulations to Allie Soisson, this week's WSBT and Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete.
