Outstanding Student Athlete: Tayler Turner

By WSBT News1

South Bend - Soccer runs in Tayler Turner's blood.

"My family is a sports family," says Turner. "My dad was a football player, my mom was a softball player. I think I just started out really young playing it and I just kinda stuck with it."

Even if she had time to take it easy, she wouldn't want to.

"Some of my friends, like, I don't know what they do after school," she adds. "They have so much time. I don't think I would like to have that much leisure time on my hands. I like coming out here and staying busy."

Turner's schedule is about to become a lot more hectic. Starting next year, she'll be playing for Notre Dame.

"They're a really great team. I'm really lucky that I have the oppurtunity to go out and play with them next year," says Turner. "Hopefully I can go in and fit right in. You know, it's a great team so it's hard to play up to that level so hopefully I can do that."

She will have to take her game to the next level though, if she wants to hit the field as a freshman for the Irish.

"I think she'll have to step it up even more when she goes to college," says St. Joe soccer head coach Johan Kuitse. "Because I think obviously the competition gets different there. But I think she's a kid who's willing to come to practice, willing to work hard and to help make her teammates better every day."

Congratulations to Tayler Turner, WSBT and Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete.
