South Bend – South Bend Clay senior Ariel East is a key player for the Colonials both on and off the court.

“She’s a girl that leads by example,” says Clay girls basketball coach Steve Scott. “She’s a born leader. She’s one that gets up and speaks if the team needs to have a talk or if somebody’s struggling at practice or having a bad day. She’s usually the one that goes up and talks to them.”

For Ariel, many of those traits started at home.

“My family is very supportive of basketball. My mom comes to almost every game,” says Easton.

Another person who’s at every Clay game is Ariel’s twin sister Asia, but that’s because they share the court together.

“Having Asia on the team is to me normal because we’ve always played together,” says Ariel. “We’ve always been on the same team. I like it. I enjoy it. We have fun.”

“I usually don’t separate the two because they don’t go anywhere without each other,” adds Coach Scott.

Ariel’s biggest supporter on the court may also be her biggest rival.

“When we’re on our alone time we go at it one on one a lot,” says Ariel. “I think I win more on the one on one. She’d probably say she wins more on the one on one. But once we come with the team it’s a together thing.”

Congratulations to Ariel Easton, WSBT and Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete.
