In many ways, Jim Caldwell was expected to keep up the traditions of former Colts coach Jim Caldwell.
Not only did that mean keeping the Indianapolis NFL franchise among the elite in the NFL, but also making sure that their involvement in the community continues to be significant.
On Tuesday, Caldwell did just that, pledging more support for the Riley Hospital for children with their Basket of Hope Program along with the Miracle Ride Charity Golf Tournament.
"It's a priveledge for us as well because we do have a fairly large platform, the lord has blessed us with the resources and things of that nature," said Caldwell of he and his wife Cheryl's charitable contributions. "I think that would be rather short sighted not to share that with the community, so we try to get involved as much as we can."
With Riley Hospital for Children it involves the Miracle Ride Golf Outing that will take place at Hillcrest Country Club on May 20th. It will raise money for the 18th annual ride that will take place June 4th and 5th and has raised around three million dollars for the hospital in past years.
It also benefits the Basket of Hope program, which began under Dungy, in which gifts are delivered to children who have just been diagnosed with a serious illness or cancer.
One of those children, Sophie Collier, was a child who received a basket from Caldwell at the Colts Complex after a diagnosis.
"She's a very tough and determined individual that just has a sweet spirit about her," said Caldwell of Collier.
